About Dream Steps Recovery

about us

Helping Young People Build Safer, Healthier and More Positive Futures

At Dream Steps Recovery, we believe that every young person has the ability to change when they are given the right environment, the right relationships and the right support.

We specialise in delivering structured 16-week residential placements for young people aged 12–17 whose lives have been affected by trauma, exploitation, emotional wellbeing challenges, substance misuse, family difficulties, school disengagement or other complex experiences.

Our role is to provide a safe, nurturing and therapeutic environment where young people can step away from harmful influences, better understand themselves and begin building a morepositive future.

Our leadership team brings decades of combined experience across children's residential care, behavioural change, safeguarding, therapeutic practice and multi-agency partnership working.

This experience enables us to deliver placements that are safe, structured and focused on achieving meaningful outcomes for every young person. We don't simply manage behaviour. We help young people understand it.

Our Vision

To help young people build safer, healthier and more fulfilling lives by providing specialist residential care that promotes recovery, resilience, personal responsibility and lasting positive change.

Our Mission

Our mission is to provide high-quality therapeutic residential placements that empower young people to understnd themselves, develop healthier ways of thinking and make confident decisions that improve their future.

By combining evidence-informed practice with meaningful relationships, practical learning and community integration, we support every young person to realise their potential and move forward with hope.

Our Mission

Everything we do is built upon six core values.

Respect
Every young person deserves dignity, compassion and the opportunity to be heard.
Safety
We create environments where young people feel physically safe, emotionally secure and able to grow.
Accountability
We encourage responsibility without judgement, helping young people learn from their experiences and move forward positively.
Growth

Every placement focuses on developing confidence, resilience, independence and life skills that extend far beyond residential care.
Hope
We believe positive change is always possible, regardless of a young person's past experiences.PartnershipThe best outcomes are achieved when families, professionals and communities work together around the young person.

how we work

Our Approach

Our work combines recognised evidence-informed approaches with practical, engaging interventions that young people can understand and apply in everyday life.

Our practice includes:
• Trauma-informed care
• Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) principles
• Behaviour change techniques
• Emotional regulation
• Psychoeducation
• Motivational approaches
• Goal setting
• Strengths-based practice
• Neuroscience education
• Practical coaching and reflective learning

Rather than relying on lectures or behaviour management alone, we help young people understand the reasons behind their choices and develop practical skills they can continue using long after their placement has ended.

our differentiators

What Makes Us Different?

Dream Steps Recovery has been built around a simple belief:

Understanding creates awareness. Awareness creates better decisions. Better decisions create better futures.

Our programmes are underpinned by two unique learning frameworks developed specifically to help young people make sense of their thoughts and behaviours.

The Opponent™

The Opponent™ helps young people recognise the internal thoughts, pressures and influences that encourage harmful or impulsive decisions. By recognising these thoughts, they begin separating who they are from the choices they make.

ThoughtSwitch™

ThoughtSwitch™ is our practical decision-making framework that teaches young people how to pause, think differently and choose healthier responses during moments of pressure, conflict or uncertainty.

Together, these frameworks help transform awareness into lasting behavioural change.

our ambition

Looking Beyond Residential Care

We believe recovery doesn't end when a placement finishes.

Preparing a young person for life after residential care is an essential part of our work. Through education, community engagement, positive activities and ongoing support pathways, we help young people transition with greater confidence into family life, education, employment and their local communities.

Our ambition is simple:

To help every young person leave Dream Steps Recovery with the confidence, skills and support network they need to build a safer, healthier and more successful future.
